Abstract:
Per G. Stensland (born in Sweden) was an American educator and consultant. The Per Stensland Papers include conference papers, correspondence, proceedings, reports, and speeches. The papers reflect Stensland’s teaching activities at various institutions, among them, Teacher’s College at Columbia University, the University of Toronto, the University of Saskatchewan, Kansas State College and the Milbank Memorial Fund. There is material related to Stensland’s activities as a member and field representative for the International Council for Adult Education (ICAE). Correspondents whose letters are of greatest depth and duration include James T. Farrell, Margaret Gayfer, Budd L. Hall, J.R. Kidd, George E. Miller, Paul A. Miller, Gunnar Myrdal, Alexander Robinson, and Dorothy Thomas.

Verner, Coolie

Abstract:
American educator Coolie Verner received his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1952. He was professor of adult education at Florida State University (1953-1961) and the University of British Columbia (1961-) where he served as department chair. His awards include a Fulbright Fellowship (1952-1953), a Canada Council Fellowship (1968-1969) and an Imago Mundi Award (1959). Papers include agendas, correspondence, drafts, programs and reports. Papers include those generated while professor at Florida State University and the University of British Columbia. There are also papers from his activities in the Canadian Association for Adult Education, the International Congress of University Adult Education, from Washington State University, and those which resulted from his writings. A significant portion of the correspondence is that of Thurman J. White.

Whipple, James B., 1913-

Abstract:
Reports, drafts, correspondence, memoranda, outlines and proposals from the American educator and consultant. Most of the papers relate to Whipple’s position as senior partner of his consulting firm, New Directions for Education (1968-1973). In this capacity, Whipple became involved in major planning projects for higher education in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. There are also materials from his partners, Freda H. Goldman and Peter E. Siegle. In addition, there are some papers from Whipple’s tenure as assistant, later associate director of the Center for the Study of Liberal Education for Adults.

Liveright, A. A. (Alexander Albert), 1907-1969

Abstract:
Alexander A. Liveright was a professor of adult education and director of the Center for the Study of Liberal Education for Adults (CSLEA) for more than ten years. Correspondence, minutes and reports which highlight Liveright’s professional interests and affiliations. Included are papers generated while professor in the schools of education at Boston University and Syracuse University, as director of The Center for the Study of Liberal Education for Adults, and as founding member and Secretary of the International Congress of University Adult Education. Sagamore Conference papers and those of the New Institutional Forms Project, a research project begun by Liveright to study the development of comprehensive adult education programs, also appear in the collection. International adult education is the focus of records from trips to Australia, Hong Kong, India, New Zealand, the Philippines, and Thailand. Miscellaneous material includes newspaper clippings, War Manpower Commission documents, and material from the Highlander Folk School.
